The Textile and Design Lab has hosted numerous conferences and symposia at which invited keynotes, guest speakers and TDL researchers have presented their work.

Wearable Technologies and Smart Textiles Symposium
14 October 2015

Auckland University of Technology’s Textile and Design Lab hosted New Zealand’s first public symposium on Wearable Technologies and Smart Textiles, also referred to as e-Textiles. Keynote speakers were Dr Oscar Tomico from the Technical University in Eindhoven, Holland, and Genevieve Dion from Drexel University, USA, both of whom are experienced researchers and practitioners in this rapidly growing field. The programme also included presenters from New Zealand industry, academic researchers and postgraduate students. The symposium focused on emergent research in nano-fibre applications, responsive textiles and integrated electronics for the wider wearable technologies sector.

Shapeshifting Conference 2014
14-16 April 2014

The conference theme, Shapeshifting: A Conference on the Transformative Paradigms in Fashion and Textile Design, included papers, panel sessions, workshops, performances, exhibitions and social events engaging designers and academics. Shapeshifting was presented by the Department of Fashion and Textiles at the School of Art & Design in partnership with Colab and the Textile and Design Lab at Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand. Keynote speakers were Otto von Busch, Nick Cave, Shingo Sato, Ying Gao and Elaine Ng Lan Ying.

Stretching the Limits in Knit Research
11 April 2013

A one day symposium hosted by the Textile and Design Lab that focused on knit related research from the commercial and academic sectors.  Presenters included Ben Shaffer from Nike’s Innovation Kitchen in the US, Simon McMaster of Footfalls and Heartbeats, Knitwear Designer, Nikki Gabriels, Professor Sandy Black of the London College of Fashion, Dr Jenny Underwood of RMIT and Dr Suzette Worden formerly of Curtin University in Perth.

A one day symposium hosted by the Textile and Design Lab with keynote speaker Hitoshi Ujiie from the Centre of Excellence of Digital Inkjet Printing for Textiles at Philadelphia University.

15 April 2011

A one day symposium looking at all facets of the knitwear supply chain.  Our keynote speaker was Professor Sandy Black from the London College of Fashion at the University of the Arts London.

A two day symposium with keynote speaker Kerry King from US based TC2, which looked at innovative and emerging technologies for the apparel and textile sectors.
