Our FeltLOOM® needle felting machine is ideal for researchers, students and designers to experiment with and produce innovative, custom designed felted fabrics using a range of fibres. The FeltLOOM® is easy to use and can produce modest quantities up to a maximum width of 150 cm.

Our FeltLOOM® supports fabric development using a diverse range of fibres for apparel, accessories, interior design, technical and electronic textiles.  It enables designers to combine their hand crafted design techniques with automated needle felting technology.

Use of the FeltLoom will only be granted to those who have attended a 1-hour felting induction session, which can be arranged with the lab.  You will learn about materials, design techniques and how to operate the machine safely during the 1-hour session.  Thereafter, the Feltloom will be available to book via email.

Short courses and workshops

You are welcome to bring your own materials for felting.  Alternatively, the lab stocks and sells a small range of dyed merino wool batts.

The 1-hour induction sessions are free of charge.  AUT students can access the Feltloom free of charge.  Non-AUT students are charged $40 per hour plus GST.
