Experimental Surface Design workshops
The lab hosted a series of felt making workshops earlier this month for our year 2 Art and Design students enrolled on the Experimental Surface Design minor programme. Around 40 students participated in the workshops during which they learned about raw materials, design methodologies and safe operation of the lab’s FeltLoom. ‘The attraction of the FeltLoom is the ability for students to get hands-on after a short induction session’, says TDL Manager, Peter Heslop.

Fabrics for digital printing
Increased freight charges have impacted on our raw material costs necessitating a price review for digitally printed fabrics with effect from 1 April. The lab is currently trialling some new fabrics to add to its range including a light weight woven merino wool fabric suitable for apparel and accessories.

Student familiarisation sessions
The lab will be hosting a series of familiarisation sessions for new staff and students during March and April. The purpose of these half-hour sessions is to make students and staff aware of the lab’s resources and how it can support students throughout the course of their studies.
