PhD success

Senior Lecturer in AUT’s Art and Design School, Rachelle Moore, recently completed her PhD studies and exhibited her final work at the St Paul Street Gallery. Her research, entitled Textile Terrains: A technique-led design methodology for knitted surfaces, focused on the development of a method of building knitted surface topographies using links-links stitch structures and the inlay knitting technique using the lab’s Shima Seiki SRY machine. Inlay is often referred to as a hybrid using both knitted and woven fabric forming techniques. The assembled material performances inherited from the hybrid textile technique are visible in the folded fragmentation of the knitted surfaces.

More student knit workshops planned for Semester 2

The lab intends to run another series of student-focused knit workshops at the beginning of Semester 2. The intention is to introduce students to the design, programming and machine knitting processes before developing their own designs of apparel, tubular structures, jacquard pieces and conductive materials, which they will knit on the lab’s Shima Seiki machines. CLO 3D Design workshop 23-24 July

A limited number of places are still available on our upcoming CLO 3D Fashion Design workshop being held on Saturday and Sunday 23-24 July. This introductory workshop covers all the key functions of this increasingly popular 3D fashion design programme, including design, pattern making, virtual sewing, fit assessment, fabric options, 3D rendering and final presentation.
