New 3D Simulation and Concept Development workshop

Following the interest shown at our recent presentation on 3D Simulation and Concept Development given by AUT graduate Alysha Gover, the lab is preparing the content for a 2-day workshop, the first of which will be held on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September. The Shima Seiki 3D Simulation programme enables the user to develop and visualise a broad range of products including footwear, interior design and furnishings, commercial spaces, apparel, visual art and knitwear.

Lab support for creative technologies graduate

Farshid Sarmast has successfully completed his Master of Creative Technologies and will graduate in August. Farshid’s project, ‘The Design of a Wearable Technology Device for Relieving Plantar Fasciitis Pain, based on the Input of Clinicians,’ was done in collaboration with industry partner Myovolt, a company that specialises in vibration therapy and wearable therapeutics. He worked extensively with TDL senior technician Gordon Fraser to develop numerous knitted prototypes of his design, which were subsequently put to the test by Myovolt’s R+D team in Christchurch. Farshid was also successful in attaining a postgraduate student grant from Callaghan Innovation for his project.

Body of Knowledge Conference

TDL director Professor Frances Joseph and Dr Miranda Smitheram will be exhibiting documentation and presenting a paper on their collaborative project, Phenomenal Dress, at the Body of Knowledge Conference on Embodied Cognition, to be held at Deakin University, Melbourne at the end of June. Frances and Miranda have used the TDL’s digital textile printing resources in producing some of their creative work for this project.

Wool-ovation competition deadline 6 July

Creative media brand Idealog and Studio ZQ have teamed up to celebrate the opening of the Studio ZQ innovation space in Christchurch and are inviting their audience to design a product that harnesses the potential of strong wool. The winner will win two all-expenses paid trips worth more than $7000 comprising of a five-day trip to Christchurch to develop their idea, and a five-day trip to San Francisco, USA to meet with US-based innovation experts.
