Photographic artist putting Stewart Island on the map

Award winning artist and photographer, Laire Purik, relocated from Estonia to Stewart Island several years’ ago and has adopted the use of digital textile printing to promote her nature inspired photography.  ‘Since moving to New Zealand, I have been more connected with nature, which is one of my biggest inspirations in my art’ she says.  Formerly a professional dancer, Laire now uses her creative talents to photograph the abundance of scenery and wildlife on the island.

Increased demand for needle felting

The lab’s Feltloom has seen an increase in demand in recent months as designers and students alike have been putting their creative flair to good effect by designing and producing their customised pieces.  The Feltloom is accessible to both students and our commercial partners once they have completed a short induction session.  Email tdl@aut.ac.nz for more details.

Student familiarisation sessions

The lab will be hosting a series of familiarisation sessions for new staff and students during March.  The purpose of these half-hour sessions is to make students and staff aware of the lab’s resources and how it can support students throughout the course of their studies.  Email tdl@aut.ac.nz to arrange a session.

Due to the current concerns around travel and gatherings, we have deferred our February and March short courses until June/July. Dates for the following courses and workshops will be announced via the TDL website in early February:
