Faculty contestable research grant success

A collaborative research project involving the Textile and Design Lab and AUT’s School of Engineering has been awarded funding by the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies.  The project was one of eight successful applications from over twenty submissions and will commence in early 2022 and run for around 12 months.  ‘We’re delighted at the prospect of working with our colleagues in the Textile and Design Lab to further our knowledge of e-textiles and combining them with a range of novel materials’, says Project Leader and Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Dr Craig Baguley.

Rehab for breast cancer

TDL Research Fellow, Jyoti Kalyanji, has been collaborating with Massey University Industrial Design student, Lucy Grunfeld, to help her develop a postoperative bra designed to offer improved aftercare for breast cancer patients by prioritising comfort and a positive experience alongside functionality.  Using insights from both patients and surgeons, her Comfi bra reduces unnecessary trauma by accommodating each breast separately, with adjustable compression inserts targeted only to required areas.
