Our FeltLOOM® needle felting machine is the latest addition to the lab’s growing range of textile technologies. The FeltLOOM® has been designed with simplicity of operation and modest quantities in mind and is the ideal way for students and designers to experiment ‘hands-on’ and produce innovative customised felted fabric designs using a vast range of fibre options.
A 150 cm wide FeltLOOM® was commissioned in April 2015 to support the need for fabric development using a diverse range of fibres for apparel, accessories, interior design, technical and electronic textiles.
If you want to access the lab’s FeltLOOM® you will need to attend either an induction session or one of our 1-day felting workshops, where you will learn design techniques and how to operate the machine. Visit our Courses page for details of the next workshops. Access to the FeltLOOM® is arranged by registering for our supervised 3-Hour Felt Making Sessions.
Materials are supplied for the induction sessions and 1-day felting workshops but you are welcome to bring your own fibre batts and base fabrics if you wish to. Those attending the 3-Hour Felt Making Workshops must bring their own materials.
The 3-Hour Felt Making Workshops are payable at the time of registration and are charged as follows:
$70.00 inc GST; AUT students: $35 inc GST.
